Every 6 seconds, someone is killed or injured on the world’s roads. This means that each day, 3,500 people lose their lives and 100,000 more are seriously injured due to road crashes — predominantly in low- and middle-income countries. And these numbers are increasing every year. Nearly half of global road deaths are among “vulnerable” road users, including motorcyclists and pedestrians, many of whom are children. In fact, road crashes are the leading worldwide cause of death for children and young adults aged 10–24.
As a company that has made safety a core value for 40 years, FedEx is committed to reversing these trends. Many road crashes can be prevented through improved awareness, education and infrastructure. For over a decade, FedEx has provided financial contributions, logistics and safety expertise and volunteer hours to make road safety a priority in the communities we serve.
Our Walk This Way program — created with Safe Kids Worldwide — has grown from a three-city U.S. pilot to reaching more than 2 million people in 10 countries since 2000. Additionally, we are a proud member of the UN Road Safety Collaboration and together with other local and global NGOs are committed to energizing a worldwide movement to improve pedestrian safety. Our investments target effective, research-based programs proven to make communities safer and save lives.
